I love oxymorons. It’s an open secret that I hold the unbiased opinion that everyone should act naturally in extreme moderation. And now that you’re clearly confused, let me explain.
If you’re unfamiliar with the term, an oxymoron is a self-contradicting statement. Each italicized term above is an example of an oxymoron. As is my day four gift to you.
If you want to multiply the results of your efforts in 2017, carefully divide your time plan. One problem with planning big goals or big changes is that the size of the effort can be overwhelming, intimidating. On the other hand, a year is a long time. So we tend to see big goals as achievable in the context of 365 days. But when we look at the same goal in terms of a single day, it would seem insurmountable, impossible to achieve.
But 2017 is coming at you one day at a time. And if you don’t approach your big goals the same way, those days are going to slip away leaving your goals undone.
To complete a big goal over a full year, and be certain that your time and energy are spent well each day of that year, divide that goal up into a series of tasks or steps that are less intimidating, and easier to achieve. If you take your big year-long goal and divide it into four equal points, you’ll have four separate realistic steps for each quarter of the year. Then you’ll know that you don’t have to do everything in quarter 1, just that first part of the big goal.
You can subdivide the first quarter step into three equal smaller steps. Now, in January, you don’t have to worry about completing that huge annual goal. If you simply complete the January step, 1/12th of the goal, you’ll be fine.
You can then break January’s piece into four smaller portions. And on week 1, the only thing you’ll need to think about is finishing a much smaller, more manageable step.
You can break that task up into 5 to 7 even smaller efforts, and cross them off, day-by-day with complete confidence that you will reach your ultimate goal within the year.
Divide your time to multiply your efforts in 2017. It may sound oxymoronic, but it will allow you to achieve huge, sweeping goals with absolute confidence. And you’ll do it 1 day at a time, with no worries and no overwhelm.
