Your Context switch is the key to taking charge of your personal change, because your context switch controls how you make decisions.
Decision making is central to both how you see the world and your place in it, and your relationships. Most of what you experience in life ultimately depends on your decisions.
Once you’re aware of your comparison switch, you decide how you see the world and your place in it. And how you present yourself to others. Once you take charge of your competence switch, you choose what relationships, and what sorts of relationships you’ll build. And what ones you’ll let go of, or make changes to. Decision making is central to your personal growth, and growth is key to getting and experiencing what you want in life.
Your decision making ability is dependent on your mindset; how you believe the world, your brain, and everything else works. Your context switch works closely with your comparison switch. Like your comparison switch controls how you see the world through what you already believe, your context switch controls how you make choices through those same beliefs.
If you believe you’re not capable of growth or change, you won’t be. But if you believe that growth and change are easy for you, they often will be.
If you believe there are lots of opportunities available to you every day, you’ll see those opportunities. But if you believe that opportunities are scarce, or dangerous, or simply for other people and not you, you won’t even recognize most of the opportunities that come your way day after day and week after week.
Regardless of how capable you are of recognizing opportunity, many people struggle with knowing what to do with it. When faced with a big choice, people often do one of three things:
But no matter which of these three examples you’re most like, taking charge of your context switch will change your decision process forever.
Once you take charge of your context switch, you still won’t always make the best choices every time. But you will make consistently better choices, consistently faster. More impoortantly, you'll stick with those choices long enough to know if they work.
And the sheer volume of great decisions will more than outweigh the few less than ideal ones along the way.
